How to Find a Haulier

How Smart Matching works, what the compliance badges mean, and how to compare quotes and profiles before you accept.

Finding a haulier on BulkMatch won't require a phone-around. When you post a load, matching hauliers are notified automatically and quotes come to you. Here's how the process will work.

How Smart Matching works

When you post a load, BulkMatch's Smart Matching engine identifies hauliers who meet all of the following criteria:

Compliance match

Hauliers with the required certifications — O-Licence, waste carrier, WRAS, ADR, FORS — for your specific load type. Unqualified hauliers are blocked from seeing the job.

Vehicle type match

Only operators with the right vehicle type (8-wheel tipper, grab, tanker, etc.) will see your load. No irrelevant quotes.

Regional match

Hauliers who operate in the collection and delivery areas, filtered by their stated operating radius.

Matching hauliers are notified by email and in-app alert. They can view the job details and submit a quote. You receive alerts as quotes come in.

Understanding compliance badges

Every haulier profile on BulkMatch will display their verified compliance credentials as badges. Here's what each one means:

O-Licence

Holds a valid Standard National Operator Licence from the Traffic Commissioner. Verified against DVSA.

Waste Carrier

Holds a valid EA Waste Carrier Registration (upper tier). Can legally transport controlled waste commercially.

WRAS

WRAS-approved tanker. Can carry potable water. Verified against WRAS register.

FORS

Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme accreditation. Bronze, Silver or Gold shown on profile.

CLOCS

Construction Logistics and Community Safety member. Required on some urban construction sites.

ADR

Driver holds ADR Vocational Training Certificate for carriage of dangerous goods.

Badges are only displayed after verification. A badge shown on a profile means BulkMatch has checked the credential against the relevant regulatory body.

How to compare quotes

When quotes arrive, you'll see a comparison view showing each haulier side-by-side. Beyond price, you'll be able to compare:

  • Star rating — average across all completed jobs on BulkMatch
  • Number of completed jobs — a signal of reliability and experience
  • Compliance badges — at a glance confirmation of credentials
  • Vehicle details — what they're bringing and its capacity
  • Time to accept — how quickly they've confirmed their availability

The cheapest quote is not always the best one. A haulier with 200 completed jobs and a 4.8 rating is often worth a premium over an unknown operator with no track record.

What to check before accepting

  • Do their compliance badges match what your load requires? (The matching engine handles this, but confirm.)
  • Do they have a track record in your material type? A tipper with 100 aggregate jobs is more reliable for an aggregate job than one whose history is plant moves.
  • Have they acknowledged the site access notes? If they've asked a question, answer it — it means they're paying attention.
